Hey man, POOLS is more like walking into an art gallery, but a whole lot more bizarre. It really is like just floating, drinking in the atmosphere, the noise. It doesn’t take much to figure out – there are just some mazes and navigation problems. But mostly it is experience which is the king of the mountain as far as tourism is concerned. It’s like you just exist and the bad feel that comes with the place just holds you down.

It doesn’t fire monsters at you but it puts your mind into a waddle. It owns up to things such as being lost or getting lost, the dark, and small/closed spaces. It attempts no interface, no conversation, and no score. That’s not the case with the sound design – it’s on an entirely different level. These echoes and sounds vary and even your steps when there is water, feels slower. These details turn the screws and make it all convincingly genuine while, at the same time, oppressively so.

He has no story like normal superheroes and villains to tell or characters to bring along. No notes or lore dumps. That is until the novelty wore off and you start noticing some changes. The rooms change and suddenly the outside world appears different. The tone is slightly different in every new chapter as there are new locations to explore, new mysteries to solve. POOLS has six chapters, and every chapter lasts approximately 10 to 30 minutes. Thus, if you are in for a dark and moody movie with no instructions for further behavior, here it is. You’re just getting through the days watching and reading in order to just experience the open world while exploring the zoo so to speak at the same time feeling the slightly anxious feeling of the setting.
